Political commentators and opposition politicians share the unenviable task of deciding whether to back Věra Jourová's candidacy for EU commissioner, despite whatever doubts they might have. Should they respect the adage that a nation's dirty laundry ought not to be aired abroad, or should they go out with all guns blazing? If Jourová fails in her hearing or becomes tainted due to criticism from home about her role in EU funding, it will reflect badly on the entire country. So will it, though, if critics are quiet now and the doubts come back to haunt Jourová later. The safest way, of course, is for critics to say they fully support her - and then to undermine her. Such as what one of Jourová's advisers, MEP Stanislav Polčák of the opposition TOP 09/STAN, did, whether intentionally or not, when he told Právo that Jourová is truly an expert on EU funding and that sometimes it's good to put the fox in charge of the henhouse.

In spring, the Russian Federation annexed Crimea. Now it encourages and supports separatist guerrillas in eastern Ukraine and this support is gradually turning into an open aggression. It is a striking breach of the political accord concluded in 1994 in Budapest, in which three powers – the United States, Great Britain and the Russian Federation – pledged to respect the independence and state sovereignty of Ukraine within the current borders and to refrain from economic pressure and use of force against Ukraine. However, the current Russian policy does not only concern Ukraine. It poses a threat to the political order of the CEE region which formerly belonged into the Russian sphere of influence. After the end of the cold war, Czechs and Slovaks won freedom, democracy and state sovereignty again.

More than anything else, more than the unwinnable wars, the crushing debt or the officially sanctioned corruption, what is driving Western civilization into the ground is Western thought. It has become so perverted that it is barely recogniz - able as being the foundation of our society. It is in fact the main cause of the unwinnable wars, the crushing debt, the officially sanctioned corruption and most of our other problems. The latest example of this new way of thinking is the clause in the Czech civil code, as explained today by HN, that requires parents to have a court order to close a minor's construction-savings account. This undermines the authority of the parents to decide what is best for the family, thereby undermining the very concept of family. A 30-year-old judge who has never done anything else in life is thrust forward as being more qualified than the parents to decide. No matter how renowned they might be as lawyers, the people who put such a clause in the civil code should be taken out and shot, figuratively speaking.

SYSTEM = interconnection of illegal activities of politicians, businessmen, officials and underworld in order to strengthen the power
and the acquisition of wealth.
"Who keeps silent on a crime, becomes its ally... and who bends once, stays bent for his lifetime. My forefathers did not serve to any crime, neither to Nazi nor to Communist, and so neither I do not bow before the criminal SYSTEM, which builds its power on the abuse of law, justice and police for the needs of corruption, mafia and on fear and obedience of people. Therefore, I will fight to the end, I can not never accept "punishment" for something I did not commit and could not to commit. I can not accept, after 7 years which the SYSTEM stole me and my family, the false game on justice and law and become a pawn in the plays of the powerful. I was "buried" by mafia 7 years ago, I have nothing, I'm nobody, on my "grave" the political prostitution, human dirt and fear celebrate ... but from the bottom, I call you: stop being silent! Overcome your fear! Do not let anybody abuse yourself! Do not serve the SYSTEM! Help!"

A few months after the invasion of Czechoslovakia in March of 1939; the Nazis decided to abolish all Czech institutions of higher education. The Nazi’s knew that institutions like Charles University were an important part of the national heritage and that closing them would devastate students and professors alike[1]. This led to a massive anti-Nazi demonstration that took place on the Czechoslovak Independence Day, the October 28th, 1939. The official German news bureau announced that as a result of these disturbances that all Czech universities would be closed for a period of three years. A number of the students accused of participating in the demonstration were heavily punished which included imprisonment of some students and a few revenge executions[2].

Jan Bata wrote a letter to the Jefferson Caffrey, Ambassador of the United States of America to Brazil in 1942 with his offer to produce as much rubber as the Allied governments needed for the war effort. In return, all that J.A.Bata asked was that his name be removed from the black list. Declassified documents released through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) show that the Czechoslovakian government-in-exile's position regarding Jan Bata as described by the Brazilian Charge d'Affairs, Vladimir Nosek; that he was "under orders from his government not to render any services to Bata or his companies," Secretary of State, Airgram A-685, November 27, 1942. This clearly shows that the Czechoslovakian government-in-exile's decisions had less to do with winning the war, and more to do with abusing their power by denying assistance to an important Czechoslovak citizen who was attempting to make an important contribution to the Allied war effort. It is also clear from other declassified documents that Charge d'Affairs, Nosek had "no documentary or other definite evidence establishing the undesirability of Bata, and indicated that he had thought our files [those of the United States government] would contain a case against him [Jan Bata]," Secretary of State, Airgram A-48, April 15, 1946. It is clear that the Czechoslovakian government-in-exile had a different agenda than winning the war by keeping Jan Bata on the black list and the eventual confiscation of his property in Czechoslovakia (today Czech Republic and Slovakia).
