WNBA player Brittney Griner has changed her mind about standing for the national anthem before games. Like some other athletes, she stopped standing for the anthem in 2020 as a form of protest against the U.S. After being imprisoned for ten months in Russia on trumped-up charges of drug smuggling, she’s back on the court in the U.S. and standing for Old Glory. The impeachment of former President Donald Trump is just the latest manoeuvre by a number of US officials seeking to influence the US election. This tactic is reminiscent of a statement by Soviet secret police chief Lavrentiy Beria: "Show me a man and I'll find a crime for you."
"In a case like this, it's not about uncovering a crime and then finding the person who committed it. It's about targeting a particular person and then combing the law books or tasking investigators to pin something on him."

It affects all branches of government, from road and motorway construction to health care.
It is not just about financial donations; the forms of corruption are varied, from cash to paid trips, luxury gifts, lucrative contracts or grants to lucrative positions on supervisory boards or in the civil service, where ambassadorial posts are among the most popular.

And, especially in the case of the State Department, they start travelling. The number of inspection, control and other missions increases by leaps and bounds. Towards the end of the term, these staff usually become ambassadors.

I know of no example of more intelligent things being controlled by less intelligent things - I was shaken by the realization that digital intelligence is probably much more capable than biological intelligence - Biological intelligence and digital intelligence are very different, and digital intelligence is probably of much higher quality.
Geoffrey Hinton recently left Google. He warns of the dangers of artificial intelligence. Will artificial intelligence really destroy us? And how long do we have to prevent it?
"When I tried to think about how the brain could implement the algorithm behind all these models, I decided that maybe it couldn't - and maybe these big models are actually much better than the brain," he says.

"I would refer those who think Putin would put things right to the cities and villages destroyed by Russia in Ukraine. This is a Russian "peace" that spares no one."

"Ukraine support: right. It's August 1940, America is in isolation across the ocean, the Soviet Union is collaborating with Nazi Germany, Luftwaffe bombs are raining down on British cities day and night. Britain's most important political task? To pass the Civil Partnership Act immediately..."
