I know of no example of more intelligent things being controlled by less intelligent things - I was shaken by the realization that digital intelligence is probably much more capable than biological intelligence - Biological intelligence and digital intelligence are very different, and digital intelligence is probably of much higher quality.
Geoffrey Hinton recently left Google. He warns of the dangers of artificial intelligence. Will artificial intelligence really destroy us? And how long do we have to prevent it?
"When I tried to think about how the brain could implement the algorithm behind all these models, I decided that maybe it couldn't - and maybe these big models are actually much better than the brain," he says.
"Quite often, people seem to get out of situations that seemed hopeless, and they're fine. Take nuclear weapons: the Cold War looked like a very bad situation with these powerful weapons. Another example is the 'Year 2000' problem. It was nothing like an existential risk, but the fact that people saw it coming and made a big fuss about it meant that people overreacted, which was much better than not reacting enough. The reason it was never a problem is because people actually sorted it out before it happened."
