Ma Ruimei and her husband, Ding Yuande, were arrested on May 12, 2023. Ma was freed on bail, Ding is still in prison. Their son is relentlessly fighting for their freedom. We interviewed him.

All cases of religious persecution are similar, yet all are also unique. They are similar, or analogous, in their dynamics and horrors, and in the suffering of the victims. But they are also unique, not only because details and circumstances obviously differ, but because human beings are not numbers only. They are real, and all are irreplaceable. This is why, when one human being suffers, all humanity suffers. When one human being is persecuted or dies, an intimate part of every one of us also experiences persecution and death.

Mr. Le-pin Ting has been fighting for the liberation of his parents in the PRC for 11 years

… Lebin’s efforts seem to have been effective. His mother was released on bail on May 24, 2023, however, she is under tight surveillance and still faces prosecution. Meanwhile, Lebin’s father remains in detention and was transferred to Rizhao Detention Center on June 13. The next day, two officers from the Donggang Police Station visited Lebin’s mother and threatened to sentence Yuande if Lebin kept up his advocacy efforts in Europe. According to Ms. Ma, they seemed fearful of the attention the case has received. …

In the early morning on May 12, 2023, over 10 plainclothes police officers stormed the tea farm of Ding Yuande and his wife, Ma Ruimei in the rural area outside Rizhao City in Shandong Province, China. The officers restrained the couple and proceeded to ransack the property. Amidst the ransacking, the couple’s son who lives in Germany, Ding Lebin, phoned his mother to see how his parents were doing. Lebin’s mother told him, “Bad guys came into the house. They handcuffed me. My hands are numb now.”The call ended after 33 seconds.

Mr. Ding Yuande, father of Berlin resident Ding Lebin, was formally arrested on July 20, 2023, by the Donggang District Police Department in Rizhao City, Shandong Province. He was illegally placed in detention with his wife, Ma Ruimei, on May 12, 2023. Approximately 70 Falun Gong practitioners in Rizhao City were detained as part of a province-wide mass arrest campaign for the 24^th anniversary of World Falun Dafa Day, celebrated annually on May 13. Ding is at risk of torture and longer-term imprisonment. 

His son, a 10-year resident of Berlin, is currently advocating for his release with multiple human rights organizations and European government officials on the federal, state, and local level.

International Advocacy Aids Family

The International Society for Human Rights, an NGO with UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) status and headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, sent letters requesting the release of Ding’s parents to the Chinese Ambassador to Germany, the former Chinese Foreign Minister and both provincial and city level CCP officials. Volunteers with the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) also flooded the detention center with calls to release Ding’s parents.

Rezoluce nestačí, přesto jsou formálním uznáním ze strany mezinárodních orgánů. Tato odsuzuje také případy Ding Yuande a Ma Ruimei, k jejichž odhalení přispěla "Hořká zima".

Zatímco pronásledování praktikujících Falun Gongu v Čínské lidové republice (ČLR) se v roce 2023 nesnížilo a poslední zpráva vydaná hnutím odsuzuje 209 nových ověřených případů pronásledování k smrti v roce 2023, čímž se celkový zdokumentovaný počet zabitých obětí od roku 1999 zvýšil na více než 5 000, rozhodný krok učinil Evropský parlament (EP).

Brzy ráno 12. května 2023 vtrhlo více než deset policistů v civilu na čajovou farmu Dinga Yuandeho a jeho ženy Ma Ruimei na venkově u města Rizhao v čínské provincii Shandong. Policisté manžele spoutali a pokračovali v rabování. Během rabování syn manželů Ding Lebin, který žije v Německu, zavolal své matce, aby zjistil, jak se jeho rodičům daří. Lebinova matka mu řekla: "Do domu přišli zlí lidé. Spoutali mě. Mám teď znecitlivělé ruce." Hovor skončil po 33 sekundách.

Resolutions are not enough, yet they are formal acknowledgments by international authorities. This one also denounces the cases of Ding Yuande and Ma Ruimei, which “Bitter Winter” contributed to expose.

While the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) didn’t decrease in 2023, and the most recent report released by the movement denounces 209 new verified cases of persecution to death in 2023, bringing the total documented number of killed victims to over 5,000 since 1999, a decisive step has been taken by the European Parliament (EP).
