President Dwight Eisenhower was the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during World War II and one of those who planned the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944. After the war, he became involved in politics for the Republican Party and became president after winning the 1952 election. He easily defended his position four years later. One of his goals was to prevent the spread of communism in the world.
When he officially took his leave of the presidency, he gave a speech in which he warned against two dangerous trends:
Politics captive of scientific elites
While respecting scientific research and scientific discovery, as we should, we must also be alert to the equally great danger that public policy itself may become a captive of scientific and technological elites.
